Samsung Unveils Next Generation Foldable Prototypes
Samsung has been at the forefront of foldable display technology since its inception in the market. Samsung’s flagship foldable the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 was bought five times more than the previous generation and the Z Flip 3 sold 40 times more than the previous generation in the US. The increase in sales shows that interest is growing in the new foldable smartphone sector with many consumers looking for something new as smartphone designs have started to become stale and repetitive.
Foldable displays do enable devices to adapt their screen size to the media for the best viewing experience. Samung’s Flexible OLED technology is improving after every generation as technical processes are streamlined and manufacturers continue to gain feedback from consumers. For example upon release, Samsung’s first-gen Galaxy Z Fold issues with the protector and creases forming at the fold. Samsung fixed the issue in the next generation.
At this year’s CES, Samsung displayed their next generation in flexible, rollable, and sliding display prototypes which offer a glimpse into the future. With Samsung’s technological expertise in several technological markets such as smartphones, kitchen appliances, and televisions, the technology can be adapted to technology sectors other than smartphones. Here are some of the prototypes Samsung displayed.
Samsung Flex G and Flex S
The Flex G and S uses a tri-folding structure and enables equal or unequal screens to overlap and fold inward or outward.

Samsung Flex Note
The Flex Note is a foldable laptop that can be used both as a screen or input area.

Samsung Flex Slidable
The Flex Slide is a slidable display where two ends can be pulled apart to form a larger panel.

Samsung Flex Rollable
The Flex Roll is a rollable display where most of the screen is tucked away at one end until it is needed.
