Samsung Unpacked 2020

Galaxy Z Flip

The number one announcement from the Unpacked event is the announcement of the most anticipated smartphone the Galaxy Z Flip. It’s carrying on from the Samsung Fold which had an eventful introduction to the public. The Galaxy Z Flip shows off another way that a foldable screen could be applied to a smartphone, bringing back the old trend of flip phones. The Samsung Z Flip folds frontwards and when folded it is small enough to fit in a pocket. The size makes the phone much easier to hold and pocket than traditional smartphones today.

When unfolded you are introduced to a 6.7-inch Full HD+ screen, the display is made of Samsung’s Ultra-Thin Glass which allows smooth swipes across with a frictionless feel. The durable Ultra-Thin Glass will help the durability of the flip phone.

There is also a 1.1-inch AMOLED Cover Display on the outside that shows incoming call, notifications, battery life, and time. The small screen is also scrollable allowing the user to view other sets of data.

The Samsung Z Flip comes with a 3,300mAh battery that incorporates a dual-battery design to ensure that the device is well balanced and not top-heavy. When it comes to cameras, the Z Flip has two cameras. The phone comes equipped with a 12MP F2.2 Ultra-Wide camera that works with the 12MP F1.8 wide-angle lens. When unfolded, there is a 10MP front-facing camera.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip shows the direction and opportunities that foldable screens could bring to push the smartphone industry forward in an already less innovative smartphone sector in recent years.

Galaxy S20 and S20+

The Samsung S20 will be the cheapest handset in the S20 line-up due to no S20e being made available. The S20 comes with a 6.2-inch display and 6.7 inches for the S20+, both using AMOLED panels with a refresh rate of 120Hz.

Both the S20 and S20+ comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage which can be expanded via micro SD card.

Both the S20 and S20+ have three cameras (64MP, 12mp and 12MP) on the rear however the S20+ comes equipped with a depth sensor. Both phones offer 3x hybrid zoom and 30x digital zoom. The camera enables both models to film in 8K and both will run on Android 10 with Samsung’s One UI.

The Samsung S20 and S20+ are improvements over the S10 especially in the camera department, however the price has increased when compared to the previous model and both models come with 4G or 5G variants depending on the country.

Galaxy S20 Ultra

The Samsung S20 Ultra is the higher-end variant in the Samsung S20 line-up. First, the phone comes equipped with a huge 6.9-inch display with the ability to run at 120Hz refresh rate.

The S20 ultra can go up to a maximum 16GB ram and 512GB of internal storage which can be expanded via microSD. The phone will come with Android 10 with Samsung’s One UI on top.

The major selling point of the S20 Ultra is the four-camera setup, the S20 Ultra offers 108MP, 48MP, 12MP and depth sensor that enables the camera to have 10x hybrid zoom and an impressive 100x digital zoom. The phone will also be able to film video up to 8K.

The Samsung Ultra provides a perfect upgrade which is targeting the pro line-up of the iPhone with the inclusion of an 108MP camera. However this phone won’t be for everyone as the price of this device may cause customers to choose the S20 or cheaper alternatives.

Galaxy Buds+

The unveiled Galaxy Buds+ comes with a battery life of 11 hours per charge, the case will be able to carry about one full recharge extending your total playtime to 22 hours. Three minutes of fast charge will grant you an extra 60 minutes.

The buds come with a new dual-driver design and audio tuning by AKG which should produce studio-quality audio that is balanced, detailed, and natural. The Galaxy Buds+ is an overall improvement, however the lack of water resistance and noise cancellation may make the Galaxy Buds+ fall behind other rival Bluetooth buds.
