Top 5 Apple Flops

Apple is one of the most recognizable brands in the world, however even the biggest company can make mistakes. Here are Apple’s top 5 flops.

1) Newton Message Pad (1993-1998)

Debuted in 1993 this was innovative at the time, however being priced at $700 narrowed the availability that could afford it. A most notable feature is the handwriting recognition, however the handwriting recognition didn’t work initially when it was first released.

2) Macintosh TV (1993)

Apple’s first attempt in the television industry was through the Macintosh TV which allowed you to turn your Mac into a television set, which is similar to the Apple TV of today. However, the tuner card didn’t let you watch TV and work simultaneously or let you capture any videos.

3) Pippin (1996)

Apple first attempt in the gaming industry was through its co-development product with Bandai which cost $600. The Pippin was initially developed to be a low-cost Ma designed for gaming, however it turned into a PlayStation alternative.

4) iPhone 4 antenna gate (2010)

When the iPhone 4 was released in 2010, buyers noticed that their calls would drop when the phone was held in a certain way. This was due to the design of the antenna being embedded in a stainless steel band in the frame of the phone. Apple’s first response was that users were holding their phones wrong. However, the antenna line design can still be seen in today's iPhone designs.

5) iOS 11 – Unable to type the letter ‘I’ (2017)

During the rollout of iOS 11 in 2017, users found a bug that they couldn’t type the letter ‘i’. The bug would turn the letter into the letter ‘a’ or odd glyphs that looked like a question mark inside a box.
