Xiaomi SU7: Joins the Electric Vehicle Market

Xiaomi a Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer best known for its smartphones such as the Xiaomi 13 Pro or the Poco X5 Pro 5G have decided to enter the electric vehicle market. Xiaomi’s smartphones are well known for releasing high-end specs smartphones that can compete with the likes of Apple and Samsung but at half the price. They look to do the same with their electric vehicle competing with the likes of Tesla, Ford, Rivian, Polestar, and other manufacturers.

What is the SU7?

Xiaomi looks to break into the electric vehicle market with its all-electric saloon the Xiaomi SU7. The SU7 is set to rival the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S with its 497-mile range with its 101kWh battery. The SU7 will be capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in 2.78 seconds. Drivers will be able to add 137 miles of range in five minutes or 317 miles in 15 minutes. All are driven by a dual motor that can produce 664bhp or 838Nm of torque.  

The entry-level version uses only one electric motor to drive its rear wheels and produces 294bhp and 400Nm. It can go from 0-62mph in 5.3 seconds with a driving range of 415 miles. 

The SU7 will feature a LiDAR sensor at the top of the windscreen and numerous cameras and other sensors around the car to provide data for Xiaomi’s pilot autonomous driving technology. Inside the cabin, it will feature a 16.1-inch central touchscreen with 3K resolution using its own HyperOS infotainment system giving the ability to display multiple widgets for maps, music and driver assistance simultaneously.

The Xiaomi SU7 is expected to launch in 2024. No confirmation whether the car will be available outside of China and pricing is under wraps at the moment with expectations the price with be competitive with its rivals.
