OnePlus Open: OnePlus First Foldable

Manufacturers are slowly entering the foldable smartphone space with several companies releasing their first foldable to the market. The market is heating up with OnePlus entering the space with the OnePlus Open.

Design

The OnePlus Open comes in Emerald Dusk (Green) and Voyager Black. If you select Voyager Black, it will have a vegan leather rear while the green version has a glass back. The device is 5.8mm thick when open and 11.7mm thick when closed. The foldable has a 6.31-inch cover display and a 7.82-inch foldable screen, both have a 120Hz refresh rate.

Specs

Apart from the foldable display, the most visually dominant aspect of the phone is the triple-lens camera on the back. The triple-lens consists of a 48MP f/1.7 primary camera, 48MP f/2.2 ultra-wide, and a 64MP F/2.6 telephoto camera that is capable of 3x optical zoom and 6x sensor zoom. The cover screen has a 32MP f/2.4 camera while the foldable screen has a 20MP f/2.2 camera.

The OnePlus Open is driven by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset which is also found in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. It is equipped with 16GB to run multiple applications at the same time, however, the phone only comes with 512GB internal storage. All this is powered by a 4,805mAh battery that supports speedy 67W charging but no wireless charging.

Additional features such as a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, Face Unlock, a physical alert slider making it easy to mute it, and spatial audio powered by Dolby Atmos can be found on the device.

Availability

The OnePlus Open was announced on 19th October 2023 and is available for purchase at £1,599 pricing it cheaper than other rivals such as the Google Pixel Fold and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.
