They have published a Matter 1.0 standard that hopes to standardise connectivity between smart home devices making it easier for consumers to adopt smart-connected devices. The Matter 1.0 standard has been driven by the big technology companies such as Amazon, Google, Apple, and Samsung SmartThings coming together to drive Matter forward and collectively unify the fragmented smart home market.
Benefits of Matter 1.0
The main feature of Matter is to simplify consumer lives when adopting new smart home technologies. Interoperability across devices, ecosystems, and brands would make it easier to introduce the new device into a smart home environment. Matter-certified devices will enable a group of devices that are manufactured by different companies to communicate with each other will ease without the need for multiple apps. For existing smart devices, manufacturers are looking to move them to the Matter 1.0 standard via updates by allowing communication with the Matter network via a bridge.
