3 Technologies I Can’t Wait to See in 2022

2022 will bring new and improved technologies bouncing off 2021 announcements. With many manufacturers announcing new products in 2021 and stating 2022 release. This year will bring a lot of innovation and competitors to emerging markets. Here are some technologies I am excited to see in 2022.

Electric Vehicles

In 2021, we have seen many new and traditional vehicle manufacturers releasing their electric cars in 2022. Three electric cars have the potential to take the market by storm and take a piece of the electric vehicle pie dominated by Tesla.

Rivian R1T

Rivian is a new company entering the electric vehicle space with the backing of Ford and Amazon. The R1T enables to company to enter the electric pickup truck vehicle space. Especially in the US where the pickup truck is the workhorse of the American people. The Rivian R1T will be a great choice for pickup truck lovers and will provide an essence of luxury as well. The Rivian R1T is expected to start delivery from March 2022.

Lucid Air

Lucid Air is an electric car produced by Lucid that was founded in 2007. Lucid Air is designed to compete with the Tesla Model S and other brands in the luxury car segment.  The Air will have an estimated range of 520miles and an estimated 1111hp, with these stats it will compete against Tesla. Lucid Air provides a great alternative to what Tesla offers.

Ford F-150 Lightning

Designed on the back of Ford’s best selling truck for 44 years running, the Ford F-150 Lightning hopes to be the vehicle that can convince Americans to convert to electric vehicles. With a driving range of about 300 miles on a single charge, 563hp and can tow up to 10,000lbs the Ford F-150 Lightning provides a great option for a pickup truck and highlights Ford’s intentions to focus their research and development in electric vehicles.

Microprocessors

In 2020, Apple announced its microprocessor chip the M1. The M1 chip displayed high-energy efficiencies and more power than Intel and AMD. The following year, Apple unveiled their most chip so far the M1 Pro and M1 Max display more power and power efficiencies than the M1 chip. These stats trumped other microprocessors from rivals especially Intel, Apple’s former microprocessor chip manufacturer. 2022 sees the release of Intel’s 12th generation CPU and AMD is expected to release their new Ryzen line-up. Many will expect these announcements to be the direct reply to the emergence of the M1 chip from Apple. Apple on the other hand is expected to announce a new chip for their desktop line-up. The microprocessor market is looking to heat up as Intel need to recover and go back to become the top CPU manufacturer. Potentially if Apple unveils their new microprocessor chip it could set a new standard for Intel and AMD to aim at when developing their new chips. This could mean our computers could get even more powerful and energy efficient.

Folding Screen Technology

With the emergence of folding screen smartphones in 2019, manufacturers like Samsung, Oppo, Huawei, Motorola and Honor hope to be the top dog in this new smartphone segment. With research and development in folding screen technology, the price will eventually go down as processing methods become more efficient. LG has been testing the technology in their LG Rollable OLED TV. Many rumours have been floating around that Apple may enter the space this year however I think the technology is still developing and Apple tends to wait and develop behind the scenes while keeping the eye on the market. The next step in folding screen technology could see prices falling as manufacturers may look to folding smartphones to be their new flagship device.
