Should You Buy A Chromebook?

When you go laptop shopping you may have noticed some Chromebooks that have Chrome OS installed rather than Windows. You may notice that the prices of some Chromebooks are much cheaper than laptops.

What is a Chromebook?

A Chromebook runs a Google operating called Chrome OS. The operating system is built by Google and uses cloud apps such as Chrome, Gmail and Google Docs. As Chromebooks use cloud apps, there is no need for a large hard drive and RAM to run an application. Chromebooks can also install apps from the Google Play Store, although do remember these apps are built for smartphones. Chromebooks aren’t built for offline use therefore you will need a constant internet connection to run cloud apps.

Who are Chromebooks for?

Ideally, Chromebooks are for users that spend most of their time in the Chrome browser exploring the internet. When deciding on whether to buy a Chromebook for someone, it's best to consider what they do currently on their laptop. Chromebooks are great with young students as they are secure and easy to update.

Summary

Chromebooks are a great alternative to laptops that tend to be more expensive. Before deciding, consider your typical usage as Chromebooks do not have enough space to install large applications on. For those creative design users, you are not able to install Adobe Creative Suite. Chromebooks are primary used for browsing the internet and need a constant internet connection as they rely on cloud apps.
