Windows 11 - Revolutionary Update

Microsoft finally revealed Windows 11, the successor to the six-year-old Windows 10 operating system. Windows 11 provides a refreshing new modern look with added widgets and improvements that will make Windows 11 a substantial update over Windows 10.

Refreshing Design

The new Windows 11 interface offers a modern look with the start menu and taskbar items centred, although there is an option to move the app icons and start menu back to the left-hand side.

Throughout the new operating system, you will find new refined modern icon sets such as a new Start button and menu. Windows 11 also has a dark mode for those power-saving enthusiasts. Microsoft has rounded the corners through Windows 11 which are visible in context menus, around apps, and in the file explorer.

Windows 11 sees the return of widgets however they are designed to slide out in a panel to provide quick access to information.

Another visible return is the Aero look which was seen from the Windows Vista era.

Features

Windows 11 offers a new multitasking feature called Snap Layouts which will enable you to arrange multiple windows across the screen. You will be able to arrange them in sections, side by side, and more.

Windows 11 offers improved multi-monitor support. When you reconnect an external monitor, Windows 11 will remember the previous positions of the windows that were on that monitor.

Microsoft Teams has been integrated into the docks, allowing users to easily join in with meetings and family calls.

Android apps can be installed via the Amazon App store so some of your beloved Android apps can be accessed in Windows 11.

Gaming will be a much bigger focus in Windows 11. Microsoft has developed a new app called Game Pass app that will allow gamers to buy, manage and remove games, making it easier to access and download games. HDR will be supported on compatible machines which will offer improved lighting and contrast for gaming and viewing media.

Summary

Windows 11 looks like a great refreshing improvement, building from the success of Windows 10. The refreshing UI and icons bring a modern, contemporary look and feel to Windows 11. The snap group will be a useful tool for multi-tasking and the improved multi-monitor support will help improve a pain point for many.  Windows 11 appears to be a great successor from what was shown in the Microsoft announcement. Windows 11 will likely be available from Late November to December and will be free as an upgrade for existing Windows 10 users if your device is compatible. You can check your compatibility by using the Microsoft PC Health Check app to see if your current PC meets the requirements to run Windows 11.
