Mercedes EQS - Luxury Electric Car

Mercedes have launched their all-new electric alternative to their S-Class limousine kitted out with the best tech. The Mercedes EQS has a range of up 478 miles and is capable of 333hp with the ability to charge in less than 35 minutes.

The Tech

Inside you will see a 55.5-inch Hyperscreen MBUX infotainment system which is a combination of three separate screens. The driver has a 12.3-inch driver display screen to show driving information. The 17.7-inch central display is the main media and entertainment information display. The third 12.3-inch display is dedicated to the passenger so they can watch their content independently from the rest of the car. The rear passengers can also get their dedicated screens for independent media consumption. For each display, the passenger can connect their Bluetooth headphones to the viewing experience. On the driver side, there is a heads up display that will show your speed and any navigational directions if you have your Satnav on.

The onboard system also has some artificial intelligence, which can respond to certain commands. The system is able to identify which passenger is asking the command and adjust independently to the passenger that called the command. The EQS also have a built-in fingerprint sensor to allow the driver to log into the correct profile to get the right settings and seat positions before they travel. The passengers can adjust the reading light from the light colour, brightness, and the size of the light cone. The interior LED lights dynamically change to what is happening with the car. For example, if the car is low on battery the LED strip will turn red.

The EQS also has your charging needs catered for with 8 USB ports and 2 wireless chargers, enough to charge enough devices on the go. For the side mirrors, you don’t have to toggle to indicate which side you want to adjust. All you have to do is look at them and adjust; the car will know which mirror you are looking at. The seats are heated and ventilated as the EQS is built for comfort. The front seats have built-in massagers that can be activated by your voice.

Safety

This luxury electric car offers a lot of innovations and systems to protect its occupants. The EQS has adaptive cruise control to react to speed limits and level of charge in the battery. The car will accelerate more gently if there is less energy on offer. There is Active Lane Change Assist to help the driver changes lane if the system detects the adjacent lane is empty and will use the road markings to make the manoeuvre. The car is also equipped with several cameras to let you see blind spots and help with reverse parking. Of course, this luxury car can park itself with Intelligent Park Pilot. The doors also have sensors to detect any obstacles so you won’t open the door into the path of cyclists or car.

Summary

The Mercedes EQS is a major leap for Mercedes into the electric car sector. The number of innovations and technologies built into the car shows what the future Mercedes consumer electric cars could be like as costs of manufacturing will decrease. EQS is a major contender with Tesla cars and it provides a more luxurious driving experience than other electric cars.
