Google Pixel 5 Event 2020

This year, Google has announced a wide range of new products from its next flagship smartphone to the new Google TV. Here is a rundown of the products announced at this year’s event.

Pixel 5

Google announced its next flagship smartphone, Google Pixel 5. The phone will come in two colours Sorta Sage (Green) and Just Black (Black). The body is made of recycled aluminium, Google has managed to keep the wireless charging function available on Pixel 5. The Pixel 5 will be IPX8 water-resistant (Submerge the device in water for up to half an hour). The Pixel 5 comes equipped with a 6-inch LED Full HD display, the display comes with a 90 Hz refresh rate so animations will be even smoother. On the rear, the Pixel 5 comes equipped with a 12m2MP dual pixel camera and a 16MP ultra-wide camera. On the front, you will find an 8MP selfie camera. The smartphone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. A 4,080mAh battery will power the phone with the capability of reverse charging that will allow you to charge other devices via wireless charging.  

Pixel 4a 5G

Google also announced the 5G version of the popular budget phone Pixel 4a with specs closer to the Pixel 5.

Google TV and Chromecast

Google TV is the new interface that brings streaming, live TV and other services together in one place. The new interface will be included as part of the new Chromecast with Google TV which will include a remote control.

Nest Audio

Google unveiled a mid-range smart speaker that offers more bass, increased volume and clearer sound.

Summary

This year's event sees a slight improvement in the camera on the Pixel 5 and the pricing structure of both the Pixel 5 and 4a 5G sees Google targeting the mid-range market rather than the high-end market that Samsung and Apple flagships occupy. Users that have multiple accounts on a number of services will welcome the announcement of the new Google TV interface.
