Microsoft Surface 2019 Event

At Microsoft’s annual surface event they have unveiled their latest additions to their Surface product line up with a few new additions that give a heavy indication of the companies direction on the future of technologies.

Surface Neo

The main announcement of the event was the unveiling of Microsoft’s foldable dual-screen device. With the device, measuring in at 5.5mm thin the device packs the thinnest LCD panel and along with a 360-degree hinge allows the two 90-inch screens to rotate around each other.

Surface Duo

The Surface Duo is the smaller sibling of the Surface Neo inheriting the 360 hinge but features two smaller 5.6-inch displays. The difference is that this device will be running Android. Yes that’s right, Microsoft and Google have been working together in building this device. The Surface Duo will be running the Microsoft launcher but will support all apps available on Google Play.

Windows 10X

With the focus on folding devices, Microsoft has developed a version of Windows that caters for folding devices. Microsoft has built the OS from the ground up enable the OS to be more adaptable and modular when the device is folded or unfolded. Windows 10X shares the same foundation as powers other Windows devices allows Windows 10X to run all of the same apps that you can on Windows 10.

Surface Pro X

The Surface Pro X is slimmer and lighter than the usual Surface Pro and comes with a larger 13inch screen that features slim bezels. The Pro X comes with two USB-C ports and is powered ARM chipset.

Surface Slim Pen

Microsoft has unveiled its new Surface Slim Pen which now includes wireless charging. The slim pen can be hidden away in the dedicated cradle at the top of the device’s detachable keyboard which folds the keyboard up against the display allowing the pen to charge while on the go.

 Surface Earbuds

Last year Microsoft announced the Surface Headphones and now Microsoft has their sights on the earbud market. The Surface Earbuds features 24-hour battery life and dedicated case for charging. The earbuds will work on all platforms and have touch features that work with Spotify allow you to play with a couple of taps.

Summary

Lately the technology industry have been unveiling there own take on foldable devices that can adapt to the user’s need. Microsoft have shown their intentions to develop in this area by unveiling two new products that caters for this market. As well investing time to develop a dedicated operating system for foldable devices that is adaptable and modular. Microsoft is taking a risk by investing huge amounts of money into this area which shows the companies prediction that foldable technology is the future. By have a big company like Microsoft investing money into developing an operating system that is suited for folding technology. This will allow a platform for other technology companies to create folding devices without having to invest time in development a new operating system to cater for this. We may see more foldable PC in the next two years as developers will be able to get their hands on Windows 10X to figure out how to best utilise this operating system to create a productive folding device.
